Drawing Makes One See the World Differently

For artists, such as Vincent Van Gogh, drawing came later in life, and with it a whole new way of approaching life with a fresh perspective - Van Gogh's early work does indeed demonstrate that. Like any other beginner student Van Gogh's early work showcases trial and errors and numerous sketches from lines over lines to make corrections of proportions and shapes. In his life, he created over 1000 drawings, sketching everything he saw from his chair in his room, to his boots, to his straw hat, the restaurant where he ate in Arles, the postman, the children playing in the streets, the peasants harvesting the fields.

Learning how to draw, means igniting interest in art and the wonderful ways art can benefit one's life. Drawing is especially the most important of all art-making since it is the ABC of learning fine art and entering the visual art world the correct way. Before painting and holding a brush, one must hold a graphite pencil and draw lines to make shapes in order to create recognizable subjects. Then, afterwards, shading and usage of different line marks is needed to create texture and depth along with shadows. All these wonderful elements that constitute the drawing medium are covered in the upcoming Fall art class with acclaimed artist / educator Vian Borchert, who has been teaching fine art classes in the DMV area for over 2 decades. The "Beginning and Intermediate Drawing" class does that and more. Not only does the class guide students step by step on how to start from pure basic drawings, but the course also covers composition, highlighting, varying themes from still-life to birds, to flowers and nature themed work like landscapes. The class starts around mid September and is for 6 sessions. Course is held a the Yellow Barn Studio in Glen Echo Park in Maryland. This special drawing course is on Friday mornings from 9:30 AM-12:00 PM, and starts on Sept 25 till Nov 6, 2026.
