However, as State Police made their way to the scene, additional reports indicated that the driver was running along the northbound shoulder of the interstate towards Connecticut Avenue. He was wearing gray pants and no shirt.

At the scene, officials located the driver, who proceeded to flee on foot from State Police before jumping approximately 50 feet over the railing onto Stoney Brook Drive.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene despite life-saving measures taken by responding troopers.

Officials have not released the identity of the driver.

Early findings indicate the 18-year-old was driving a blue Ford Fusion when he crashed into a blue Chevrolet pickup truck that was being towed.

No injuries were reported in connection with the crash.

An investigation into the case remains active.
