MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD — A 19-year-old from Boyds was sentenced to 30 days in prison after being tied to an illegal street takeover that saw police cruisers damaged.
Montgomery County Police identified the teenager in a Friday release as Derrick Kingston Henry, who pleaded guilty to second-degree assault for his role in the February incident.
Henry was sentenced to serve five years in prison but had all but the 30 days suspended. He is set to report to authorities Monday by 5 p.m. to begin serving out his sentence.

However, in addition to the 30 days, Henry will be placed on supervised probation for the next three years and is required to pay $2,000 in restitution to the county.
Probation conditions bar Henry "from facilitating, encouraging or participating in any car meetups," according to the release.
Henry's sentencing is tied to the illegal street takeover that occurred Feb. 22 and initially started in Prince George's County before crossing into Montgomery County.
The car rally crossed the county line in Silver Spring, with participants later moving the street takeover into the Chevy Chase area.
Footage released by Montgomery County Police earlier this year showed dozens of individuals surrounding two marked cruisers and spraying smoke to reduce visibility for responding officers.
At one point, the footage captures another car doing donuts nearby as multiple individuals prevent police from entering the intersection and disrupting the rally.

While no officers were injured during the interaction two marked cars sustained damages that included a broken rear window and a smashed front windshield.
The department previously announced three arrests over the street takeover that included two teens and a 20-year-old man. One of the teens was a Pennsylvania resident who police say was holding a lit flare while on the back of a police cruiser.
