Woman Doused in Fuel and Lit on Fire Seeks Help at Polling Place in Kettering

Suspect who intentionally set fire died from burn and smoke injuries, according to Prince George's Fire/EMS.

KETTERING, MD β€” A man is dead and a woman is in critical condition after authorities say the man intentionally set fire to the woman at their home after a domestic dispute in Kettering.

The Prince George's County Fire/EMS Department said that at around 9:45 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 8 a 60-year-old woman ran from her home on Herrington Drive and sought help from a group of poll workers at Kettering Middle School. The woman suffered from third degree burns on the upper half of her body, and poll workers helped her and called 911 to report smoke coming from a house across the street.

The 64-year-old man who is accused of setting the fire apparently left the house and then went back in. He then exited a second time and was found outside "suffering from burn and smoke inhalation injuries," the report states.

Both were sent to the hospital in critical condition. A PG County fire captain suffered burn injuries while battling the fire, but he was treated and released later that day. Two dogs escaped the house.

"Officials from the Fire/EMS Departments Office of the Fire Marshal arrived and began their cause and origin investigation," the report states. "It was quickly found that the injured female was doused with an ignitable liquid and set on fire by the male during an argument they were having in the basement of the house. This incendiary act also started combustibles on fire in the basement."

The fire loss was estimated to be around $100,000. Authorities prepared multiple charges against the man, Louis Ferrard Fedee, including attempted murder, assault and malicious burning, but he died of his injuries at the hospital.

The woman remains in critical condition.
