1 Seriously Injured In Gas Explosion In Calverton

The incident happened Friday night near the Prince George's-Montgomery county line, authorities said.

CALVERTON, MD — One person was seriously injured on Friday night following a gas explosion in Calverton, according to authorities.

Prince George's County Fire and EMS responded to Powder Mill and Cherry Hill roads around 10:15 p.m. for a reported gas leak and explosion. When crews arrived, they also discovered downed power lines.

Authorities said one person was taken to the hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.

Montgomery County police assisted at the scene.

Following the explosion, police closed Cherry Hill Road at the county line, just south of FDA Boulevard. Drivers were advised to seek an alternate route.
