$100K Winning Lotto Ticket Claimed By Construction Worker Will Help Him Build New Business

A Prince George's County construction worker aims to build his own business after winning $100K on a lottery scratch-off ticket.

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — A construction worker from Brandywine couldn't believe his luck when he won $100,000 playing the lottery's $100,000 Lucky game. Jemmelle Murphy had stopped to cash his paycheck at a store, then decided to splurge $30 for the instant ticket at Waldorf Liquors.

He scratched the ticket while in the store and was stunned with what it revealed.

“I celebrated with the clerk a bit and then rushed home to show my family,” Murphy said. "Everyone was grinning from ear to ear.”

The 33-year-old has worked in commercial construction and residential building for a family-owned business for nearly 15 years. Murphy told lottery officials that his $100,000 prize might help him start out on his own and launch a deck-building business.

“I’m just blessed,” he said of his big win. “I’ve stayed focused and do good and good things have happened.”
