1st Full-Time Veterinarian Brought On Board At County Animal Shelter

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — A full-time veterinarian has been hired for Prince George's County who will help at the county Animal Services Facility and Adoption Center. This is the first time a full-time vet has been on staff.

Dr. Constantine Tinaza joined the Animal Services Division Tuesday as the full-time veterinarian with extensive experience in shelter medicine, livestock care and disease mitigation expertise that will "enhance the shelter's capability and real-time response," officials said. Before Tinaza was hired. the shelter utilized two part-time veterinarians for years. They will continue working with the Animal Services Division and Tinaza.

“This is a transformative moment for Animal Services,” said Dr. Samuel B. Moki, director of the department of the environment. "With a full-time veterinarian on staff, we can deliver more consistent, proactive and comprehensive care, improving animal health, strengthening disease prevention and supporting better outcomes overall."

The Prince George's County ASFAC is among the largest animal shelters in Maryland, caring for hundreds of dogs, cats and other animals annually and consistently operating at or near capacity.
