$2.8B FY24 Operating Budget Approved By Prince George’s County Education Board

The Prince George's County Board of Education has unanimously approved a $2.8 billion operating budget for fiscal year 2024.

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — The Prince George’s County Board of Education unanimously approved a $2.8 billion operating budget for fiscal year 2024. The budget focuses on investments in educational and operational improvements for Prince George’s County Public Schools and represents an approximate 5.7 percent increase over the current $2.7 billion spending plan.

The budget, approved at the June 22 meeting, reflects board of education priorities while supporting the state’s Blueprint for Maryland’s Future and the PGCPS Transformation 2026 strategic plan, school leaders noted.

"The approved budget for fiscal year 2024 reflects our collective commitment to improving learning outcomes for every student in Prince George's County Public Schools,” said Prince George's County Board of Education Chair Judy Mickens-Murray. “Through strategic investments in educational and operational enhancements, we are prioritizing critical student-focused initiatives and ensuring students have the resources and support they need to thrive."

The FY 2024 budget includes $1.55 billion in state funds, $943 million from the county, $232 million from the federal government, $70 million from the fund balance and $11 million from Board sources. In addition to fully funding the requirements of the Blueprint, the county provided an additional investment of $7.7 million for the repair, maintenance and testing of Artificial Turf Athletic Fields at nine designated high schools, as well as renovations of other school facilities.
