2022 Bowie Green Citizen Gary Allen Recognized For His Sustainability Efforts

BOWIE, MD — Gary Allen has been recognized as the 2022 Bowie Green Citizen award recipient. Allen, a former Bowie mayor, was celebrated for his lifetime of work in the field of sustainability at the city's 2022 Arbor Day celebration, timed because he currently serves as president of the Maryland Forestry Association.

He also chaired the Bowie Environmental Advisory Committee for many years where he spearheaded the council’s adoption of sustainable policies for Bowie, such as purchasing hybrid vehicles, increasing the tree canopy, encouraging the use of solar power and getting Bowie recognized as one of the first Sustainable Maryland Certified communities in the state.
