3-Foot Lizard Found Roaming Outside Bowie Home: Report

BOWIE, MD — A large lizard has repeatedly visited a Bowie family’s front steps and yard, leaving the homeowners worried about their two small dogs, NBC Washington reported.

Photos identified the reptile as an Asian water monitor measuring about 3 1/2 feet long. Homeowner Keshia Trafton said her family first found it resting on an Amazon package near the front door.

The lizard has since emerged from nearby bushes during warm weather and has been seen on the family’s steps and a house pillar. Humane traps have failed to catch it, according to the report.

Animal control officers searched the property Thursday but did not find the reptile. They plan to return and remove it safely. Maryland law does not classify monitor lizards as dangerous.
