$47K Win For Grandma Who Takes A Gamble With Scratch-Off Ticket In Prince George's
A Prince George's County grandma took a gamble with a Racetrax ticket and won more than $47,000.
PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — Right before Valentine's Day, a 72-year-old from Brentwood snagged the $47,181 prize from a Racetrax ticket that sweetened the holiday even more.
On the morning of the big win, the grandmother of two and her son went to AJ Liquors in Brentwood to grab a lotto ticket or two.
“The morning of, I wrote down the numbers I wanted to play, 10, 11, 12,” she said. “I don’t know where they came from, they just came to mind.”

She placed a 50-cent trifecta box wager on the horses numbered 10, 11 and 12 for two drawings, adding the bonus multiplier feature. Neither won on their first tickets, she said. Before they left, her son decided to replay his ticket and she did the same.
Checking the race results as they headed home, her son asked, “Mom, did you have 10-11-12? Those numbers came out!” He scanned her ticket with his phone, using the lottery app, and couldn’t understand how she won so much money until he realized she placed a trifecta box.

A retired administrative assistant from The George Washington University Law School, the winner has two adult children and two grandchildren. She plans to give some of her prize to her church, help her son with some expenses and put the rest in the bank to enjoy in retirement.
“I’m blessed,” she said.
Also a winner is her lucky Lottery retailer, AJ Liquors, located at 3801 Bladensburg Road. The Prince George’s County business earns a $471.81 bonus from the Lottery for selling the winning ticket. The bonus is equal to 1 percent of the prize.
