6 Injured After Dump Truck Blows Tire, Crashes, Bursts Into Flames: MSP
Six people, including 2 kids, were injured after a dump truck blew a tire, crashed and burst into flames on I-495 Monday morning.
PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — A dump truck traveling northbound on I-495 around 11 a.m. Monday blew a tire, veered into the southbound lanes and crashed on the Capital Beltway Monday. After the dump truck overturned, it burst into flames, according to the Maryland State Police.
The driver and a child riding in the dump truck were taken to a burn center in Washington, D.C. The driver and a child passenger in an SUV that was heading southbound on I-495 also were injured when they swerved to avoid the oncoming dump truck and overturned, according to the MSP.
All lanes of the Outer Loop was shut down for hours. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
