  • Today is the last day of the always popular Maryland Renaissance Festival, it will be open from 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. Check out their website for more details. 
  • The Bowie Farmers' Market is having its Octoberfest celebration today starting at 10 a.m. in the Bowie Library's parking lot. Free activities include pumpkin painting (which can be purchased at the market) scarecrow making (participants bring a shirt and pants for construction) and live music.   • Today is the annual UN (United Nations) Day, commemorating 65 years of existence for the organization. Here's a message from the Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon:
  • "UN Day is a day on which we resolve to do more.  More to protect those caught up in armed conflict, to fight climate change and avert nuclear catastrophe; more to expand opportunities for women and girls, and to combat injustice and impunity; more to meet the Millennium Development Goals."
