Campbell is being held at the Department of Corrections without bond.
The shooting took place shortly before 1:45 p.m. Sunday in the 6900 block of Forest Terrace for the report of a shooting. Officers arrived to find Knijah, of Harvard Street in Northwest Washington, inside a home suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. The child was rushed to a hospital, where she died of her injuries.
Police say an argument between Wallace and another man took place outside the home, and escalated until Wallace left and returned a short time later with a gun. He reportedly fired several times into the home, hitting the child. Detectives do not believe Knijah was the intended target.
Lt. Bill Alexander of the Prince George’s County Police Department told WTOP the child’s death was an act of “senseless violence.”
“The young girl we do not believe was in any way an intended target. This is obviously horrific, collateral violence,” Alexander says.
Anyone with information on Wallace’s whereabouts is asked to call the Prince George’s County Police Department’s Homicide Unit at 301-772-4925.
