LANDOVER, MD — An Upper Marlboro man has been sentenced in the fatal shooting of 31-year-old Dequan Clinkscale of Capitol Heights.
On June 7, 2025, at approximately 4:40 a.m., Prince George's police officers were called to the 400 block of Warfield Drive in Landover for the report of an unresponsive man. Officers found Clinkscale in a parking garage with gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.
During their investigation, detectives identified 33-year-old Aaron Zavier Jefferson of Upper Marlboro as the suspect. They determined that the men knew each other and Jefferson shot Clinkscale during an argument.
Jefferson was charged with first- and second-degree murder and related charges. He was convicted of second-degree murder and use of a handgun in the commission of a felony or violent crime. He recently was sentenced to 40 years in prison, suspending all but 30 years, the Prince George's County state's attorney announced this week.
