Do you have any previous political experience? If so, please state and explain how that experience will influence your time in office if elected.

Dr. Jennifer N. Rios has extensive leadership and public service experience, including service on multiple boards and commissions such as the Governor’s Commission on Hispanic Affairs, the Maryland Legislative Latino Caucus Foundation, and the Prince George’s County Veteran Affairs Board. She has also served in leadership roles with organizations including the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and local homeowner and business boards. This experience has given her a deep understanding of public policy, community engagement, and organizational leadership, which she intends to bring to effective, results-driven service in office.

What do you believe is the single-most important issue facing voters in the district you’re looking to represent? How do you intend to address those issues?

One of the most pressing issues facing the district is housing affordability and overall quality of life. Many families, seniors, and working residents are being priced out of their communities. I support expanding affordable housing options, protecting both renters and homeowners, and ensuring responsible development that preserves existing neighborhoods while allowing for smart growth. I will work to make sure residents have access to stable, affordable housing and opportunity.

How do you differ from other candidates running against you?

I bring a unique combination of military service, executive leadership, and private-sector business experience. Having served 13 years in the U.S. Army and built a career in business and organizational leadership, I understand both discipline and innovation. My approach is practical, collaborative, and focused on measurable results rather than politics as usual.

How would your work experience benefit the goals/objectives you’ve outlined in your campaign and/or the office you’re seeking?

My background in strategic planning, logistics, and organizational leadership—along with my MBA and doctorate in business administration—has prepared me to manage complex systems, budgets, and stakeholder needs. I have led teams, developed operational strategies, and worked across government and private sectors, all of which directly translate into effective public service.

What is your opinion of the work being done by the current office holder, and how will you improve on it?

I recognize the efforts that have been made to address community needs, particularly around housing, infrastructure, and public safety. However, more must be done to ensure that progress is inclusive, transparent, and sustainable. I will focus on strengthening accountability, improving communication with residents, and ensuring that policy decisions reflect the long-term needs of the community.

How do you feel about the school system in your area and what improvements would you like to see be made?

Strong schools are the foundation of strong communities. I support increasing investment in educators, expanding access to resources, and ensuring that students are prepared for both college and career pathways. I would also advocate for stronger partnerships between schools, families, and local businesses to better support student success.

How do you feel about crime in your area and what steps can be taken to reduce it?

Public safety requires both accountability and prevention. I support effective law enforcement alongside investments in mental health services, youth programs, and community-based initiatives that address root causes of crime. Building trust between residents and public safety agencies is essential to creating safer communities.

What do you think about the economic climate and business sector in your community, and what initiatives could propel it forward?

We must continue to support small businesses, workforce development, and entrepreneurship. Reducing barriers to business growth and expanding training opportunities will help strengthen the local economy. Economic opportunity should be accessible to all residents, not limited to a few.

How do you feel about transportation options in the area and what, if anything, should be improved upon?

Transportation infrastructure should be reliable, safe, and accessible. Investments in roads, transit, and mobility options are essential to connecting residents to jobs, schools, and services. Thoughtful planning is needed to reduce congestion and improve long-term sustainability.

What else would you like voters to know about you?

I am committed to service, integrity, and community empowerment. My career has been dedicated to leadership in both military and civilian roles, and I believe in practical solutions that improve everyday life for residents. I am running to ensure that every voice is heard and that our community continues moving forward together.
