OXON HILL, MD — The Virginia man wanted in the fatal shooting of an Accokeek man in the parking garage at MGM National Harbor Hotel and Casino called 911 after the incident then turned himself in.
On Thursday around 11:10 p.m., Prince George's Police Officers were called to the area of Monument Avenue and MGM National Avenue for a report of a crash. Officers found a man with multiple gunshot wounds inside his slingshot autocycle. Later identified as 33-year-old Christopher Austin, Jr., of Alexandria, Virginia, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The preliminary investigation indicates that the suspect and Austin were both in the exit line at the parking garage. It appears the suspect, identified as 36-year-old Tyrell Hairston of Accokeek, started an argument with Austin. Hairston then got out of his vehicle, approached Austin in his slingshot autocycle and shot him. After he was shot, Austin drove away and crashed nearby, according to police.
Shortly after the shooting, Hairston called 911 and turned himself in. He’s in the custody of the Department of Corrections.
At this time, there is no indication that the suspect and the victim knew each other prior to their interaction at the garage exit.
