PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — The county sheriff's office on Friday announced the arrest of a man who witnesses say was assaulting a woman he knew but jumped out a window to escape arrest.
Dimitris Gross was apprehended June 30 after a manhunt following a June 23 domestic violence-related incident. Sheriff's deputies entered the home where the assault was happening. Deputies said Gross jumped out a rear window, ran across the backyard, scaled a fence and fled the scene.
Neighbors reported hearing a woman yelling "I can't breathe!" Deputies arrived at the scene and saw Gross grabbing the victim by the neck, yelling in her face and pushing her against an exterior wall of the home. Deputies reported that Gross' grip on the woman's neck was "consistent with applying pressure to the victim's neck, restricting blood flow."
When Gross saw the sheriff's deputies, he went into the home, then escaped. After interviewing the victim, the Prince George's County Sheriff's Office obtained an arrest warrant for Gross. Deputies assigned to the Domestic Violence Division coordinated with members of the U.S. Marshals Task Force, who located and arrested Gross after the warrant was issued.
Gross has been charged with first-degree assault (domestic-related) and other domestic violence-related offenses. He remains in custody.
