PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — A retired government worker popped by the Weis Market in Accokeek to claim a $500 prize and discovered one of her scratch-off tickets was worth much more.
The woman enjoys playing scratch-offs daily at the Accokeek Weis Market. She scans her tickets as soon as she arrives at the store, but this time, she wasn't sure what the message on the screen meant.
She asked the customer service clerk to scan her Scratch & Match ticket and that's when they both realized she'd won $100,000.
“I was like ‘Wow! I can’t believe it!’” she said.
She immediately called her younger brother who shares a love of scratch-off games to tell him the news. He was equally shocked. Her brother accompanied her to Maryland Lottery headquarters to claim the prize.
The Prince George's County resident told lottery officials she plans to use her winnings to renovate her mother’s home.
Weis Market receives $1,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
