Investigation Launched Into Prince George's Sheriff's Chief Of Staff

The chief of staff for County Sheriff John D.B. Carr recently was put on administrative leave while the office's internal affairs division investigates her now-deleted Facebook posts.

Tracy Brown's social media posts warned of "karma" after the union president spoke with The Banner, the publication reported. Her posts apparently criticized the president of the deputies union, Dep. Lt. Garry Yancy, The Banner reported. Yancy was interviewed by The Banner for a story about a private citizen who "collected a fee in exchange for organizing evictions," which is a responsibility of the sheriff's office.

Sheriff's office spokesperson Ghada Tafesh told The Banner Brown is on paid administrative leave during the investigation.

According to NBC4, Yancy filed a complaint against Brown in regard to the social media posts he said she shared on her personal social media pages that he believed were "meant to disparage him."

The social media comments, made in July, included what appeared to be an AI-generated image depicting Yancy as a disgruntled employee "with an ax to grind."

"What you do does not affect only you; it also affects the people standing around you," Brown's post continued. "Bitterness and vengeance never win, because karma has a way of returning—often when you least expect it."

Carr's statement provided to NBC4 stated: "Back and forth between two members of this office over social media is not where I want our focus, or the public's, spent.

"That said, the reputation of this office and how we treat one another matters to me, whether that's face to face or on a screen," the statement continued. "I expect a high standard of professionalism from command staff and every deputy. Placing Chief of Staff Brown on leave allows Internal Affairs to conduct a full and fair review. It is not a determination of what occurred."
