SUITLAND, MD — The Independent Investigations Division of the Maryland Office of the Attorney General is investigating a fatal police-involved shooting in Suitland Friday night, officials said.
According to the Prince George's County Police Department on X," on Friday at about 11:35 p.m., officers observed two vehicles in the area of Suitland Road, Randolph Road, and Reamy Drive in Suitland.
Officers followed the vehicles in marked police cruisers when both vehicles turned onto Reamy Drive, a narrow, dimly lit dead-end street, police said.
Preliminarily, one of the vehicles drove off the roadway and through a residential yard toward officers, police said.
For reasons still under investigation, an officer on scene discharged their service weapon striking the driver, an adult male, police said.
Officers immediately rendered medical aid, and the driver was transported to a local hospital, where he later died, police said.
"We extend our sincere condolences to his family," the PGPD said on X.
The Maryland Office of the Attorney General's Independent Investigations Division responded to the scene and has assumed responsibility for the investigation, officials said.
The investigation remains ongoing, and additional information will be released by the IID.
According to the IID, the shooting occurred in the 4500 block of Reamy Drive in Suitland, Prince George's County; the involved officer is employed by the Prince George's County Police Department, the IID said.
The IID will generally release the name of the decedent and any involved officers within two business days of the incident, although that period may be extended, if necessary, pursuant to IID protocol, the IID said.
Officers were equipped with body-worn cameras; the IID said.
