LARGO, MD — A Prince George's County father and son have been arrested and charged in a federal drug case involving more than a kilogram of fentanyl, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Maryland.
Rashad Deondre Hicks, 36, of Largo, has been charged with distributing 400 grams or more of fentanyl. His father, Lawrence Alonzo Hicks, 62, of District Heights, has been charged with possession with intent to distribute more than 400 grams of fentanyl.
The charges stem from a months-long investigation that began in January, according to federal court documents.
Investigators allege Rashad Hicks sold large quantities of fentanyl supplied by Lawrence Hicks. An undercover officer purchased fentanyl from Rashad Hicks eight times during the course of the investigation, prosecutors said.
Those purchases totaled more than 1,300 grams of fentanyl with an estimated street value in excess of $100,000, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.
Authorities also searched the men's homes when they were arrested.
At Rashad Hicks' home, investigators said they found about 230 grams of suspected fentanyl, 1,018 grams of suspected cocaine base, two loaded guns and an estimated $5,000 in cash.
At Lawrence Hicks' home, investigators reported finding about 9.5 kilograms of suspected cocaine, 2.6 kilograms of suspected cocaine base, 4.4 kilograms of suspected fentanyl and about $10,000 in cash.
Federal prosecutors estimated the drugs seized during the searches were worth around $1.7 million.
If convicted, each man faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in federal prison and a maximum sentence of life for the fentanyl charges.
