• Bowie Woman Dies After Driver Fleeing Traffic Stop Crashes Into Her: Police (patch.com) — Bowie residents are being asked for any dashcam or home security footage after 69-year-old Deborah Saffran of Bowie was killed when a driver fleeing a traffic stop crossed the center line and hit her car. The crash happened Wednesday afternoon near Lanham Severn Road and 9th Street, and Prince George's County police say charges will be reviewed once the investigation is complete.
• Plans for old Six Flags site in Maryland reignite concerns for Belt Woods (southernmarylandchronicle.com) — Plans to redevelop the former Six Flags site next to Belt Woods are raising fresh worries for Bowie-area conservationists who helped save the old-growth forest decades ago. Local advocates, including a former Bowie mayor, fear new entertainment, retail, and housing could erode the fragile habitat despite county promises of buffers and sensitivity to the rare ecosystem.
• Documentary on late Maryland 'Songbird' Eva Cassidy makes DC-area debut (wtop.com) — A new documentary about late singer Eva Cassidy, who grew up partly in Bowie, is finally reaching a wide local audience on WETA and PBS streaming. The film blends rare performance footage, a previously unseen interview, and reflections from family, friends, and music legends to explore how a modest nursery worker from suburban Maryland became an international posthumous star.
