On Sept. 23, 2025, around 1:55 p.m., Prince George's police officers were called to the 10800 block of Lake Arbor Way for the report of a deceased man. They found 58-year-old Coleman James Williams of Landover unresponsive in a wooded area outside Bowie. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

An autopsy showed that Williams had multiple broken bones, a fractured hyoid bone consistent with strangulation and a brain bleed. The medical examiner determined he was set on fire after his death, court documents showed.

Holmes, who was 16 years old at the time, was identified as the suspect. Authorities say he beat Williams to death and set his body on fire in a wooded area in Bowie.

Holmes was taken into custody Oct. 2, 2025. Prosecutors say that Williams' death stemmed from a dispute between the suspect and victim.
