BOWIE, MD — A DoorDash driver and his customer gained the internet's attention after the customer recorded himself picking up an order at the scene of a crash involving his Dasher.
The DoorDash driver, later identified as William Koroma, contacted his customer, Glenn Ndibnu, and apologized for being unable to deliver the food because he had just been in a serious crash. Koroma told Ndibnu he could meet him at the scene of the accident to pick up his order if he wanted to, according to Fox News.
Ndibnu began recording the incident as he approached the crash scene on Church Road in Bowie. Numerous rescue vehicles were present with lights flashing. He could see Koroma's totaled vehicle — and his food order sitting on the sidewalk at the intersection.
"I DoorDashed some food, and my DoorDasher told me he got in a car accident, and he was like, 'I can come meet him and get the food from him,'" he explained in the video shared on iHeart. (Note: The linked video contains graphic language.)
Ndibnu said in the video he felt guilty for grabbing his food at the crash scene.
"I think that's my food right there. Is it f---ed up for me to walk across and pick it up?" Ndibnu said. "I look so f---ed up right now about to go get this food."
He apologized to Koroma, checked to make sure he was okay, and from there the video went viral.
Koroma ended up launching a GoFundMe campaign to help replace his totaled vehicle.
"My vehicle experienced brake failure, and I was involved in a major accident," Koroma wrote on the GoFundMe page. "My car was totaled, and I am deeply grateful that I survived and that no one else was seriously injured. Since the accident, I have been facing several challenges at once. Losing my vehicle has left me without reliable transportation, and I have also lost my job."
He shared an update on his Instagram page and added that he has medical bills piling up from the crash, too.
As of Tuesday afternoon, the GoFundMe has raised almost $14,000 toward its $16,000 goal.
