PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — Hundreds of volunteers are needed to help complete more than 30 community service projects in College Park and surrounding communities as part of Good Neighbor Day on Oct. 24.
The event brings together university students, residents, businesses and community organizations to improve neighborhoods, support local nonprofits and strengthen relationships between the university and its neighboring communities, organizers say.
There are shifts still available for Saturday's volunteer day at this link.
Volunteer spots are available for anyone age 10 and older. Participants younger than 18 must have a parent or guardian complete a consent and release form. Children ages 10 and 11 must be accompanied by an adult during the event.
According to the University of Maryland, volunteers have completed 190 projects since the program began, with more than 7,150 people participating.
Their work has included donating more than 22,000 pounds of food, packing more than 102,000 meals and distributing more than 3,200 hot meals.
Volunteers also have removed invasive plants from more than 175,600 square feet of land, planted more than 3,400 native and pollinator plants and planted more than 1,650 trees.
