UPPER MARLBORO, MD — Keeping those furry family members fed can sometimes put a strain on the household budget, but a Prince George's County program is lending a helping paw to pet owners who could use a little assistance.
The Nibbles Nook Pet Pantry will distribute free dog and cat food Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon at the Prince George's County Animal Services Facility and Adoption Center, 3750 Brown Station Road in Upper Marlboro.
The monthly program provides supplemental food for cats and dogs whose owners may be struggling with the cost of pet care. Even the smallest four-legged family members need full bellies, and the program aims to help residents keep their beloved pets healthy and in the homes they know.
County residents can receive food for up to two pets per household. Supplies are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis and are available only while supplies last.
Proof of Prince George's County residency is required.
The pantry is held on the first Saturday of each month, offering ongoing assistance to pet owners facing financial challenges.
The program is part of the county's efforts to support responsible pet ownership and reduce the financial pressures that can sometimes force families to surrender their animals.
By helping provide food for dogs and cats, Nibbles Nook gives families one less thing to worry about while helping pets remain with the people who love them.
