Armed Carjacking Suspect in Custody: Police

Prince George's County authorities say a Washington, D.C., man and an accomplice stole a Hyattsville man's car at gunpoint.

A suspect in a May 13 armed carjacking in Hyattsville is now in custody, facing multiple charges, according to the Prince George’s County Sheriff’s office.

Deputies recently arrested Michael West of Washington, D.C., on an arrest warrant for armed carjacking.

According to the arrest warrant, West and another suspect approached a man May 13 as he got out of his vehicle in the 5000 block of Cypress Creek Drive in Hyattsville. Police say West pointed a handgun at the man and demanded his keys and money, after which the suspects fled the scene in the victim’s vehicle.

The deputies went to a residence in the 200 block of Malcolm Avenue in Washington, D.C., where West was taken into custody without incident and taken to Metropolitan Police District IV station.

West is also charged with armed robbery, firearm use/felony violent crime, handgun on a person, handgun in a vehicle, theft between $1,000 to $10,000, and theft less than $1,000.
