Prince George's County Police say a Lanham man attacked a Seabrook man Monday for no apparent reason.

SEABROOK, MD — An unprovoked attack that left a man dead of stab wounds on a Seabrook school playground has led to murder charges against a Lanham man, authorities say.

The Prince George’s County Police Department arrested suspect 31-year-old Alex James Jones, 31, of the 6000 block of Carter Avenue in Lanham.

The victim in Monday’s homicide is Douglas Napoleon Reyes, 24, of 100th Avenue in Seabrook.

Investigators say the men had gone separately to the basketball court. Reyes was sitting on a bench near the court when Jones reportedly confronted the victim and then stabbed him several times in what police said was an unprovoked attack.

The victim and suspect did not know each other, police say.

Jones is charged with first- and second-degree murder. He’s in custody of the Department of Corrections on a no-bond status.
