Arwyn's Home; Stolen Dog Found in Calvert County

Prince George's County Police say Arwyn, who was stolen from her home during a burglary, was found a long way from home but in good health.

The Prince George’s County dog stolen from a home during a burglary was released by thieves and found wandering in Calvert County .

Arwyn, a 10-year-old boxer, was swiped from a home in Greenbelt on Wednesday, Oct. 15. The missing pet’s photo was shared more than 600 times from the police department’s Facebook page.

Authorities shared the good news that Arwyn was home on Facebook Monday night, and said they are confident the elderly pet didn’t get out of the house on her own.

The dog’s owner, Gabrielle Cowgill-Wilkins, was desperate to get her pal back. She described Arwyn as “a gentle old gal” in a TV interview. The two have been together since Arwyn was just six weeks old.

“She doesn’t leave my side when I’m home,” Cowgill-Wilkins told NBC Washington. “And she sleeps next to me on the bed, so she’s curled up right next to me.”

Cowgill-Wilkins said the thieves can keep the diamond ring and electronics they took from her apartment; she just wanted Arwyn safely home.

A tip from a good Samaritan led Cowgill-Wilkins to find Arwyn walking the streets of Calvert County, police said. “She was a long way from home, but we are very happy to report that she’s been found in good health,” the department said on Facebook.

Readers were outraged by the theft. Jennifer Cook Koenig wrote: “Breaks my heart Take the stuff, leave pets, children and other humans out of it!! Hope he is found safely and returned quickly to his family and home.”

And Pamela Harris-Dutrow added, “They could keep all my stuff no questions just bring me back my dog.”
