COLLEGE PARK, MD — An eye-popping new video shows the utter devastation caused by a five-alarm fire that raged through an apartment building under construction in College Park on Monday, causing a record-setting $39 million in damage. The video is embedded at the bottom of this post.
Firefighters are still working to put out hot spots more than 24 hours after the fire first broke out on Berwyn House Road. Prince George's County Fire Department spokesman Mark Brady said Tuesday that firefighters will be working on the structure for "most of today."
The fire forced the closure of the nearby University of Maryland and the evacuation of a senior center. More than 200 firefighters from PG County and surrounding counties, as well as the District of Columbia, were needed to contain the massive blaze.
