Basketball Tournament Fights Crime in Prince George's: Report
Prince George's County hopes to fight crime with basketball tournaments and jobs fairs, WTOP reported. Here's a look into the effort.
DISTRICT HEIGHTS, MD — Prince George's County officials hope to fight crime with community engagement, WTOP reported. Journalist Liz Anderson wrote that leaders put the plan into action on July 3, hosting a three-on-three basketball tournament and a job fair in District Heights.
The effort is part of the "Our Streets, Our Future" initiative from Prince George's County State's Attorney Aisha Braveboy, the news outlet noted. Anderson mentioned that the effort tries to prevent youth gun violence by organizing productive activities.
"Our future are in these streets," District Heights Mayor Johnathan Medlock told WTOP. "It’s important that we get them out and engage them and meet them, meet them where they are."
