Bond Denied For Suspect In Prince George's Crime Spree That Injured Six People: Prosecutor
Bond has been denied for Tanay Stallings-Brown who Prince George's Police say injured six people in a crime spree across the county.
PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — Bond has been denied for the woman police say injured six people, two of whom were stabbed, last week, according to court documents.
Tanay Stallings-Brown of Baltimore appeared in court Monday afternoon in Upper Marlboro for a bond hearing. Stallings-Brown has been charged with dozens of offenses, including multiple counts of attempted first-degree murder, assault and additional charges related to hitting pedestrians with a vehicle.
Prince George's County's State's Attorney Aisha Braveboy said in a news conference Monday that her department wanted to make sure a strong message was sent that this behavior is "unacceptable." She said Stallings-Brown is a danger to the community, which is why her office advocated for no bond after Stallings-Brown's attorney had requested private home detention. Stallings-Brown also is wanted for aggravated assault with a weapon for an incident in Baltimore, Braveboy said during the news conference.

"We have not seen this level of violence committed against people who are seemingly strangers in a very long time, so this is very concerning to us," Braveboy said during the news conference. "We definitely want to get to the bottom of it."
Her mother, Tanya Stallings, told The Washington Post that Stallings-Brown has struggled with mental illness since she was a teen, including schizophrenia and ADHD. In 2019, her mental health worsened, her mother said, after her husband was killed, and Stallings-Brown became a single mother.

About 5:05 p.m. Thursday, Prince George's County police officers were dispatched to Forest Park Drive and Ritchie Road in Capitol Heights for the report of a pedestrian who had been hit by a vehicle. She sustained minor injuries. The driver fled the scene, according to the police department.
Ten minutes later at about 5:15 p.m., officers were called to 20 Ritchie Road, where two people had been hit by a car. The driver then climbed out of the vehicle and stabbed one of the victims, a 15-year-old girl, who has life-threatening injuries, authorities said. The second victim, a man, has injuries not considered life-threatening. According to court documents, the teen was stabbed about eight times, including in the neck and chest. The pair had been walking in the McDonald’s parking lot at the time, the documents state.
About 5:25 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 6800 block of Walker Mill Road. A man told officers he had been hit by a car while walking on a sidewalk toward Addison Road. The driver turned around and came back to strike the victim a second time. His injuries are considered minor.
A second man reported being hit by a car in the 1000 block of Addison Road South. His injuries also are considered minor, according to the police department. According to court documents, those two victims were walking off the road when they were hit.
An hour later, at about 6:35 p.m., officers were called to a Sunoco gas station in the 9100 block of Annapolis Road in Lanham for a report a man was stabbed and suffered critical injuries. According to court documents, after the first few incidents, Stallings-Brown walked over to a taxi waiting outside the gas station and asked the driver to "give her a ride somewhere." Court documents state she proceeded to enter the rear passenger seat and the driver kept asking her where she wanted to be taken, "but she never provided him with a location."
Police added that when the taxi driver stopped the vehicle in a parking lot to gather information on where she needed to be taken, Stallings-Brown took out a knife and "proceeded to push the knife deeper and deeper into the victim's chest." After a struggle, the taxi driver was able to push the knife out of his chest and Stallings-Brown ran back to where she parked her vehicle, according to court documents. The taxi driver was taken to the hospital.
About 10:50 p.m., with help from the Baltimore Police Department, Prince George's County police officers saw Stallings-Brown get into the car, which was stopped in the 2300 block of Washington Street. Officers took Stallings-Brown into custody. The car she was driving had significant front-end damage and a smashed windshield, according to police.
“The crimes Stallings-Brown committed occurred across three different police divisions in a span of an hour-and-a half. Commanders and investigators in each of these divisions worked aggressively to interview victims and witnesses and attempt to locate any video or images of the suspect. Investigators were able to determine the crimes were all linked and committed by one female suspect. Within six hours of her first crime, PGPD detectives identified, located and arrested her in Baltimore. I am proud of each of these officers. They worked with a determination to arrest the suspect who would so brazenly come into our community and cause harm to six victims. We wish each of these victims well in their recoveries,” said Prince George's County Police Chief Malik Aziz.
Stallings-Brown is scheduled to appear in court again on Feb. 26 for a trial/hearing date.
