Bowie Baysox Suddenly Change Their Name
For one night only, they're named after David Bowie, not the Maryland city in which they reside.
Everyone knows that the proper way to pronounce Bowie is "Boo-ee," but on Friday night that won't be the case anymore -- at least at Prince George's Stadium.
That's because the Bowie Baysox are honoring the late David Bowie with a special promotional night in honor or the legendary musician, according to a statement, which notes that the name of the team would be changed from the "Bowie Baysox" to the "Bowie Baysox."
The class-AA affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles will enact the name change for the Bowie Baysox David Bowie Tribute Event on Friday, July 22 in a matchup against the Erie SeaWolves at Prince George's Stadium at 7:05 p.m.

"The team will represent the star with Bowie music, contests and tributes throughout the event," the statement adds. "The Baysox will also wear special David Bowie-themed jerseys during the game that will be auctioned off during an in-game jersey auction. Proceeds from the jersey auction will benefit Feeding America. The designs for the multi-colored jerseys were inspired by the many flamboyant outfits that David Bowie was famous for wearing during his performances."
There will even be David Bowie-themed fireworks after the game.
