Bowie City Council Approves Two Residents To Fill Vacancies
Two residents have been unanimously approved by Bowie City Council members to fill two vacant terms through November 2023.
BOWIE, MD — The Bowie City Council unanimously approved Clinton Truesdale Sr. of Long Leaf to fill the vacancy in the District 3 Council seat and Jarryd Hawkins of Pointer Ridge to fill the at-large vacancy at its meeting this week. The vacancies were created when former Councilmembers Ingrid Harrison and Adrian Boafo resigned after being elected to higher offices.
The appointees will take the oath of office at the council’s next regular meeting Feb. 21 at 8 p.m. at City Hall. Both appointees will serve until the next city election in November 2023. They will be eligible to run in that election for a full four-year term on the council.
Candidates for the seat were interviewed by Councilmembers in closed sessions prior to the vote. There initially were 37 individuals interested in the vacant at-large seat, but 11 applicants dropped out before the interviews, leaving a field of 26 candidates. For the District 3 vacancy, 18 applicants filed for consideration and 16 went through the interview process.
