Bowie Driver Asleep at Traffic Light Faces Weapons Charges
A caller to 911 thought a Bowie man was ill; police found him asleep at a traffic light in Annapolis.

A Bowie man faces weapons charges after police found him apparently asleep behind the wheel at a traffic light in the Annapolis area.
Anne Arundel County Police say a caller to 911 reported a man passed out in the driver’s seat of his car about 5 p.m. Tuesday at a traffic light on Jennifer Road.
Officers spoke to the driver, Brandon Lee Smith, 28, of 604 Juneberry Court in Bowie, who they say was initially unresponsive and apparently fell asleep at the wheel. Once he awoke, police say Smith appeared dazed and drove 30 feet down the road, then stopped.

Police had Smith get out of his vehicle, searched him and found he was carrying two loaded handguns that were not registered and for which Smith did not have a gun permit. A .40 caliber Sig Sauer was tucked in Smith’s waistband and a Taurus .380 was found in his left back pocket. Smith was charged with two counts each of handgun on a person and handgun in vehicle.
