Bowie Election Results: Here's Who Won

Bowie residents went to the polls for a special election to fill a vacancy in a councilmember seat after the original holder was recalled.

BOWIE, MD -- Dufour Woolfley cruised to an easy election win to fill the vacancy in the District 2 Councilmember seat on the Bowie City Council, according to a statement from the city.

Woolfley beat four other candidates for the seat by a wide margin. Out of 2,234 votes cast, he received 1,323 votes, or 59.2 percent. The next highest finisher was Diane Polangin -- the former holder of this seat who was recalled in December, necessitating this special election -- with just 17.3 percent of the vote.

Piero Mellits got 15.3 percent, Monica Roebuck had 5.7 percent, and Edward Frazee received 2.5 percent of the vote. There was one write-in vote.

Total turnout for the election was 21.2 percent. Woolfley will be sworn in on Monday, and he will serve until the citywide election in November 2019.

Polangin was recalled on Dec. 19 over her support for a new apartment complex at the Marketplace shopping center. The community was concerned about the traffic problems this would cause.
