Bowie High Bulldogs Fare Well in Regional Meet, Gear Up for State Meet Next Tuesday
The Bowie High boys finished fourth as Roosevelt swept the meet.

The girls have found lots of success during indoor track and field this winter. They came up big again during last week’s regional meet.
Bowie battled long-time Prince George’s County track powerhouse , and the Bulldogs finished second in the Class 4A East Region meet at the Prince George’s Sports and Learning Complex on Wednesday night.
Roosevelt finished with 68 points to edge Bowie (66). The Bulldogs took advantage of strong efforts from Charde Barnes, Deborah Fajuyigbe and others to give Roosevelt a fight. They’ll advance to next Tuesday’s Class 4A state meet, also at the Sports and Learning Complex, beginning at 4 p.m.

Barnes won the 3,200 meters, took second in the 1,600 and finished fourth in the 800 to give Bowie 22 of its 63 points.
Fajuyigbe captured the 500 and finished second in the 300. She also ran on the victorious 800 relay that set a meet mark with a time of 1:46.51. Maritza Travis, Briana Gooding and Lexus Ramsey also took part in that relay.

Barnes also helped out with a third-place finish in the 55-meter dash. The Bulldogs got another third-place effort from Kenyetta Louis (high jump, 4 feet, 10 inches). She was just ahead of teammate Evelyn Chappell (4-8), who tied for fourth place.
Nastacia Samuels scored the other Bowie point with her sixth-place finish in the 55 hurdles.
Barnes had played a huge role in helping the Bulldogs breeze to the Prince George’s County title a few weeks earlier on the same track. She won the 800 and 1,600 in that meet.
The Bowie boys fared well in the region meet, taking fourth place as Roosevelt completed its sweep that night. Bowie finished with 43 points overall.
Joshua Wilkins was the only Bulldog winner that night, taking first in the 1,600 in a time of 4:35.05. Wilkins also ran on the second-place 3,200 relay with Donnell Davis, Jerome Brown and Gerardo Amaya.
Amaya and Brown both added some more points on their own. Brown took fifth in the 800 while Amaya was fourth in the 1,600. Alan Ottenstein (fourth) and John Walker (fifth) both gave Bowie some help in the 3,200.
The Bulldogs finished fourth in the 800 relay thanks to the team of Thomas Bowman, Daniel Fajuyigbe, Brandon Bailey and Mohamed Roberts. Steven Gilliam helped out by taking third in the 55 hurdles and fifth in the 55 dash.
