Bowie High Student Dies on School Trip

The 16-year-old Bowie High School student fell ill while on a school field trip.

A Bowie High School student on a Junior ROTC trip became ill and died early Saturday morning while traveling with his classmates, according to reports.

Okon E. Ntekim 16, was returning from the school trip on a school bus when he complained of pain, reports WUSA TV.

The teen became unresponsive while the charter bus was near the Capital Beltway. WTOP reports paramedics responded to the bus at an Exxon station on St. Barnabus Road in Oxon Hill.

Paramedics performed advanced life support measures, then took Ntikem to a nearby hospital, where was pronounced dead.

The Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the cause of death.

Prince George’s County Public Schools released this statement Saturday:

“Prince George’s County Public Schools is saddened by this tragic turn of events and send our deepest sympathy to Ntekim family. PGCPS will do everything it can to support the entire Bowie High School community during this difficult time.”
