Bowie Names Martin Luther King Jr. Art Contest Winners
Eight local students will be recognized by the Bowie City Council on Feb. 16.

BOWIE, MD--On Feb. 16, eight local students will be recognized at the Bowie City Council meeting for their winning entries in the City of Bowie’s Martin Luther King Art Contest.
The contest was sponsored by the City’s Diversity Committee to promote a better understanding of the accomplishments of the slain civil rights leader.

The competition was open to all students living within the municipal boundaries of Bowie or attending a school in the City of Bowie.
Kindergarten through second-graders colored a picture of Dr. King, while students in grades three through five created a poster that represented the contest theme of “Growth, Unity, and Progress” along with a short summary. There were no entries in the video contest for sixth- through 12th-graders.

About 400 contest entries were received from local students. Finalists were selected in January and honored at the city’s Martin Luther King program. A slide presentation of their work may be viewed here.
Winners will be recognized by the City Council and receive their awards at the Feb. 16 meeting of the Bowie City Council at 8 p.m.
