Bowie Officer Shoots At Suspect: Police

The man later turned himself in.

BOWIE, MD -- Bowie Police are reporting an officer-involved shooting following a traffic stop in town on Wednesday. The man the officer shot at has since turned himself in.

A Bowie police officer initiated a traffic stop on Elder Oaks Boulevard at Excalibur Road, according to a statement from the city.

"During the stop an altercation ensued and the Officer discharged his weapon," the statement reads. "The suspect fled and is still outstanding."

The officer suffered minor injuries during the ordeal.

Prince George's County Police have taken over the investigation.

"Initially, it was unclear whether the driver was wounded," Prince George's County Police said in a statement. "However, several hours after the incident, the driver turned himself into the City of Bowie Police Department. He had not been struck, although his vehicle was struck by a bullet during the incident. Prince George’s County Police detectives interviewed the driver who was later released. He has not been charged with any crimes at this point in the investigation."
