Bowie State's LGBT Student Center Featured on NPR's 'Tell Me More'

The university's Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersexed and Allies Resource Center, opened earlier this year and was featured on NPR.

 

As a historically black university, may be the first of its kind to open a student resource center geared toward the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender community.

NPR's Michel Martin featured the university's center, which opened earlier this year, on her "Tell Me More" show Thursday.

Professor Adrian Krishnasamy, an assistant professor of communications at Bowie State University and director of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersexed and Allies Resource Center, and Melanie Carr, a recent graduate of Bowie State and a committee member at the center, were guests on the show.

Krishnasamy focused on how the university found the space and funding for the plan, while Carr spoke about campus reaction.
