Bowie Teen Fatally Shot By Friend
A 15-year-old Bowie girl was fatally shot after her friend picked up a loaded gun at a house in Washington, D.C.
BOWIE, MD — A 15-year-old Bowie girl was fatally shot by a friend who got hold of an illegal, unsecured gun.
Metropolitan Police reported that on Saturday around 6:53 p.m., Seventh District officers were called to the 900 block of Barnaby Street Southeast for the report of a shooting.
Officers found a teenage girl unconscious and not breathing with a critical gunshot wound. DC Fire and EMS responded to the scene, where the victim was pronounced dead, according to police. She was identified as 15-year-old Journee Long, according to police.

An investigation determined that two teens had accessed an illegal and unsecured firearm. One of the teens picked up the gun, causing it to fire and hit the other teen. The juvenile with the firearm was uninjured, police reported, and has not been charged.
As part of the ongoing investigation, detectives determined that 33-year-old J’Von Green of Southeast D.C. was the owner of the illegal firearm recovered at the scene. Green was arrested and charged with possession of an unregistered firearm and ammunition, carrying a pistol without a license, and criminally negligent storage of a firearm.
