Bowie Woman Killed In Crash Along I-495 Inner Loop

A woman died in a 2-vehicle crash along I-495 on the inner loop Monday night after her vehicle hit a guard rail then was hit by a car.

LANHAM, MD — A 24-year-old woman died Monday in a two-vehicle crash on the inner loop of Interstate 495.

Maryland State Troopers were called to the area of Maryland 704 near the inner loop of I-495 around 10:13 p.m. Monday for a report of a crash.

According to a preliminary investigation, a BMW driven by Mijah Smith, 24, of Bowie was traveling on I-495 when, for unknown reasons, Smith veered off the roadway, hit the barrier and then came to rest between the shoulder and lane one. An Acura then attempted to avoid the BMW but subsequently struck the barrier and the BMW, according to Maryland State Police.

Smith was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Acura was uninjured in the crash.

Lanes were closed for approximately two hours for the crash investigation. The Maryland State Police Crash Team continues to investigate the crash.
