Boy Died Trying to Protect Mother During Argument: Police

Court documents say 14-year-old Keyshaun Mason was trying to intervene in a fight between his mother and her boyfriend when he was stabbed.

A boy who died of stab wounds Monday in Oxon Hill was trying to protect his mother from her live-in boyfriend, who had barricaded the couple in a bedroom with a knife before the fatal attack, court records say.

The victim in the homicide is 14-year-old Keyshaun Mason of the 600 block of Audrey Lane, according to Prince George’s County Police. Suspect Sean Crawford, 48, of the same address was arrested at the scene.

Police arrived about 7:25 a.m. to find the two teens suffering from stab wounds. They were both taken to a local hospital, where Mason was pronounced dead. The second victim, an 18-year-old of the same address, was treated at Prince George’s County Hospital and released.

Police say Crawford live with the boys’ mother, Lakisha Jenkins; the pair were involved in an argument. Mason and the other teen tried to help Jenkins, but Crawford got a kitchen knife and barricaded himself and Jenkins in the master bedroom, reports WTOP, citing charging documents.

When Mason and the other teen forced their way into the room in an effort to persuade Crawford to leave the apartment, he allegedly stabbed the 18-year-old in the shoulder and Mason in the chest, according to the charging document.

According to online court records, Crawford is charged with second-degree murder. He is also being charged with attempted first-degree murder and assault charges for the attack on the surviving victim.
