Boyfriend Sought For Attempted Murder in Girlfriend's Stabbing

The Landover suspect is also charged with attempting to sexually assault a young girl and then fire-bombing a Hyattsville apartment.

UPPER MARLBORO, MD — A Landover man accused of repeatedly stabbing his girlfriend is being sought by authorities, who say he also attempted to sexually assault a young girl and then fire-bombed an apartment.

The Prince George’s County Police Department is asking the public to help find the suspect, Richard Butler III, 34, of the 3200 block of 75th Avenue in Landover.

Investigators say that about 11 a.m. Monday Butler confronted the victim outside a home in the 10000 block of Tyrone Drive in Upper Marlboro. Butler repeatedly stabbed the woman before fleeing.

The stabbing victim was seriously hurt, but is expected to survive, authorities said Thursday.

Butler is also wanted for attempting to sexually assault a young girl he knew at a Hyattsville apartment on March 4. Later that day, he’s accused of throwing an incendiary device through a window of the same apartment, sparking a fire. No one was hurt.

Butler is charged with attempted first-degree murder, second-degree sex offense, arson and several additional charges.
