Burn Victim Found Dead on the Ground in Capitol Heights: Police

Police are trying to figure out what happened to a severely burned man found in a public area.

CAPITOL HEIGHTS, MD — Police are searching for a suspect after finding a man who had been severely burned dead in the road on Monday.

A citizen flagged down a patrol officer at around 9:50 a.m. on Dec. 19 after finding a victim on the ground in the 1100 block of Brooke Road, according to a report from the Prince George's County Police Department.

Police say the victim, 27-year-old Rayshan Lee Cotton of Landover, was "suffering from severe burns" and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives are working to find a suspect and motive in the case, and will await the results of an autopsy to determine the cause of death. Police are offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to an arrest and indictment.
