Lightning, downed trees and torrential rain struck Prince George's County hard on Monday.

BOWIE, MD — Thunderstorms gave the Prince George's County area quite a pounding Monday evening, and some pictures emerging on social media shows just how fierce this storm was as it rolled into town.

Hail, torrential rain and floodwaters were reported all around the D.C. area, with wind gusts close to 60 miles per hour, according to a Washington Post report. Power was knocked out to thousands of homes due to downed trees.

Images on social media showed the terrifying beauty of this violent summer storm as it rolled into Prince George's County after battering D.C. and Northern Virginia.
