City of Bowie Offers 100 Free Home Energy Audits

Local residents can apply through the city website beginning Sept. 8

Starting Sept. 8, Bowie homeowners can apply for a Home Performance Energy Audit paid for by the city. The promotion is valued at $100 and will go to the first 100 eligible applicants.

Eligibility requirements include permanent residency in Bowie, and a single-family home of no more than 3,000 square feet. A full criteria can be found on the city website.

Energy audits test the efficacy and efficiency of a home’s heating and cooling systems. During a home audit, a contracted ENERGY STAR technician will use high-tech diagnostic instruments to identify ways to make households more comfortable while reducing monthly energy bills.

Audits can also help technicians find ways to diminish household greenhouse emissions and air leakage.

Residents interested in this offer can apply online, or submit an application in person during working hours at the Planning and Economic Development Office at City Hall.
