A college student from Upper Marlboro was shot and killed in his car in North Carolina just days before his graduation, authorities said.

UPPER MARLBORO, MD — A business administration major from Upper Marlboro was fatally shot in his car April 25, just days before his graduation from North Carolina Central University in Durham.

Myles Gresham, 22, was killed several miles away from campus at an apartment complex near where he lived in Durham, NBC Washington reported. He was shot about 3:30 p.m., causing his car to crash into two others in the apartment complex parking lot.

Witnesses told WNCN Gresham was wounded under his right armpit and said a man in a red hoodie fled from the vehicle.

Gresham’s mother described him as very smart and humble, a dedicated student with entrepreneurial aspirations. He planned to start an internship in real estate this summer in Seattle.

Gresham’s father told WNCN he was heartbroken to learn of his son's death.

“Just a range of emotions because we were looking forward to him graduating and going on with his career,” Darrell Gresham said.

His son had been making music since eighth grade, and also loved playing basketball.
